Americans are generally smart people. They are expressive and creative. The country is full of well educated, intelligent, brilliant and charming men and women who are presidential material. They are all quite business-like in their attitudes and going by the number of times they declare “God bless America” you would imagine that most of them are patriotic to the core.
Therefore, it was disappointing to many that the only two contenders for presidency were
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
In a no-holds-barred campaign they machine-gunned each other with negativity. From email scandals to groping allegations, it was wrestling in the mud. Finally, this real estate mogul, a man who claims he loves all things beautiful whether it is women or buildings, one who embraces the philosophy of “if you have it – flaunt it” and who conceives ideas on a larger-than-life canvas, has become the most powerful person on planet Earth.
This has made many people uncomfortable but the American voters have voted decisively. They know that this man will lead them for the next four years, and they have given him control of their country. We are told that people of Indian origin in USA and we desis here favoured Trump over Clinton. Trump has already made his presence felt in Mumbai with a 75-storey “Trump Tower” branded building, now being built by Mumbai’s Lodha Group. We are hoping that India will benefit from his buccaneering business acumen and a tweaking of United State foreign policy to lean towards India. Next time Trump bhai is in Mumbai he will probably try out some Pav Bhaji. Trumpet bajao.
